Haiku for Letters

Haiku FridayOld notebook paper:
Your pen followed the blue lines
tracing out your day.

The pages are creased.
Pressed by your own hand, sealed, sent
hand by hand, to me.

And you say please. Please.
Write. Send me something you touched.
E-mail's so sterile.

  1. LOVE this. I have a handful of people with whom I correspond on paper (instead of email) and there is little I find more rewarding than to curl up on my couch with a cup of hot tea and a hand-penned letter from a far-away friend.

  2. That's beautiful. My mom writes to me. And I treasure some of the last (lucid) letters my Dad wrote to me. I wish I'd written my diaries in pen instead of pencil -- many days of my tween angst I can barely read!

  3. Oh yez ... your 'ku speaks to me mightily! I treasure the hand-written word for myself (in my many journals) and in correspondence with friends and loved ones. Like Jan, many of my entries are in pencil and hard to read ... though I confess I still prefer my favorite mechanical pencil to a pen when writing.
    Hugs and blessings,

  4. I agree about email. I still like to write letters and use my fountain pen. I have a collection of those that make me want to write. I write in my journal every day too. It just feels good.

  5. Email is so sterile.

That it is. So true. It hits me because my husband loves to email me when hes out, or text. "I love you" 20 times a day he texts "I love you" But he never says it or pens out a note. Ugh... I hate email.

***But I love your poem :)
