Gone Fishing (and Requesting Some Input)

I'm going to be away this weekend on a very cool and long-awaited trip (a gift to me from a collection of loved ones). So (alas!) no haikus on Friday or Second Road posts this weekend (as you can see, I'm squeezing the TSR posts in today). I'm not (as those of you who have known me longer know) a big fan of travel, although I seem to do it every year anyway.  I'm leaving my laptop behind and not telling you where I'm going until I've been there.  I have a few definite plans for my trip along with a lot of big, empty, unplanned spaces on my calendar, but I suspect that both will produce some good blog fodder.

While I'm gone, I'm wondering if you all could help me think about my Greatest Hits list over there on the sidebar. I compiled it a long time ago, really pretty early on in the life of this blog, and I feel like I haven't added a whole lot that's new. I'm going to be revisiting that list and doing some culling and reorganizing, and I want to know if any of you have posts (especially more recent ones) you've been especially fond of that you think I should highlight over there to share with folks who might be new to this blog. Any suggestions?

Thanks!  And have a great weekend!

  3. Have a great trip. Getting away from the future ex-husband and kids was something I should have done more often, when we were all together. I honestly don't think I ever did that, unless it was to go away overnight to deal with a deathly ill parent - not exactly a pleasure trip.

  4. I have a handful of favourites of yours, and here they are:

    For the birds
    No excuses for anyone
    Superpowers
    Words on the bathroom wall

I like these posts because I think they tell the underlying story of you, your family, and your recovery. I especially like the lessons you learn about yourself and your recovery from your children.

And even though they're already in your greatest hits, I really, really, really like:

Sex, lies, and a haircut given by a cat
    A new kind of trust

I re-read these posts often, and they remain among my favourites.

I hope you enjoy your trip and have good relaxation!

  6. Like Jade, I really love the Words on the Bathroom Wall post. And the other post that was very helpful to me in understanding someone I know is already on your Greatest Hits - What Is Sex Addiction? That post is a keeper.

Hope you have a wonderful, relaxing trip!

  10. I'm really new visiting your blog; but I think Confessions of a Bad Mother is a very important, powerful piece. It spoke to me, said things that I've experienced but wouldn't have whispered aloud--it helped me to release some guilt--so I nominate it for the Favorites List.
I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Hope you packed a bunch of books and a journal and a sketchpad--Gone Fishing weekends are perfect for those. Oh, and I'd take chocolates too.

  11. I really like "Jesus is my Ex" and the cat haircut post. By the use of excellently chosen similes/comparisons you made them both highly entertaining and presented important insights in an easy-to-understand way.

  13. I watched a movie that had a minor side plot involving a high functioning autistic teenaged girl. It's called "Breaking and Entering" and stars Jude Law, Robin Wright Penn, and Juliette Binoche. You may want to rent/netflix it, if you haven't seen it.
